Ingredients
Scale
- For the Cake:
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp baking powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 1 3/4 cups granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- For the Frosting:
- 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans, then line the bottoms with parchment paper.
- Cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar in a large mixing bowl until light and fluffy.
- Whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the creamed mixture, alternating with the milk.
- Stir in the vanilla extract and divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
- Prepare the frosting by creaming together the softened butter and powdered sugar until smooth. Gradually add the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until fluffy.
- Once the cakes are cool, frost the top of one cake layer, place the second layer on top, and frost the entire cake. Decorate as desired.
Notes
- Use room temperature ingredients for a smoother batter.
- Measure flour correctly by spooning it into the measuring cup and leveling off.
- Check for doneness with a toothpick to avoid overbaking.
- Allow cakes to cool completely before frosting to prevent melting.
