Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Cook macaroni according to package directions until al dente. Drain well.
- In a large saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour until smooth, cook for 1-2 minutes. Slowly whisk in milk until smooth and thickened. Simmer, stirring constantly.
- Remove from heat, stir in cheddar and Gruyere (if using) until melted and smooth. Season with salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
- Add cooked macaroni to cheese sauce, combine. Pour into greased 9×13 inch baking dish. Mix breadcrumbs with melted butter (if using) and sprinkle over top.
